With LRT construction ahead of schedule, OC Transpo has decided that as of August 14 at 9am, buses will no longer be using Tunney's Pasture Station. Instead buses will leave the Transitway, entering Scott Street between Smirle and Caroline. This will allow for the construction of the Tunney's Pasture LRT Station.
From OC Transpo:
It is hard to believe the kids are going back to school in less than a month. Many Kitchissippi kids will be wanting to bike to school, so we are happy to present a city-run bike rodeo, Saturday August 27, 10am, in the parking lot of the Hintonburg Community Centre. That morning, before heading out to stock up on school supplies, come on down to learn the skills that will keep kids safe as they bike around the ward.
This free event will feature stations including helmet fitting, bike checks, hand signals, and shoulder checks.
CBC and The Tragically Hip present 'The Tragically Hip: A National Celebration'
I'm very pleased to host a free screening of 'The Tragically Hip: A National Celebration' outdoors in Parkdale Park (behind the Parkdale Market) on August 20 from 8:30 PM to 11:30 PM.
Bring your lawn chairs and refreshments - the screening will only go ahead if it doesn't rain! This will be an alcohol-free event. Facebook event page is here.
Thank you to everyone who attended our Mahoney Park consultation earlier this summer and for submitting your feedback. Before we move forward, we wanted the opportunity to post the information online so that anyone who was not able to attend in-person still has the opportunity to submit feedback. You'll find all the files below. Please feel free to review the information and let us know what you think. The deadline for final feedback in August 16, 2016.
Thanks!
Fiona
Please review the following info we received from the City. While the work is occuring next door in Somerset Ward, this may impact your commute on the O-Train Corridor MUP:
"On August 3, 2016 (weather dependant), the City of Ottawa will advance two boreholes for a geotechnical investigation near the Champagne-O-Train Corridor Multi-Use Pathway under the 417 Highway overpass. This work is required to determine geotechnical conditions, as part of the design for a drainage improvement project that will address O-Train Corridor drainage concerns.
The city's Board of Health has extended the deadline for the Ottawa Public Health's Harm Reduction consultation survey until Monday, August 8. It's your chance to have a say on the issue of supervised injection sites. Here's the PSA from OPH, along with a link to the survey:
This afternoon, I received word that Abdirahman Abdi passed in hospital. I cannot express fully my grief. My deepest condolences to his family and friends.
In the past hours, we have received numerous expressions and sympathy from Kitchissippi residents. They have made numerous offers of help, and I have passed on to the family the community’s willingness to help they and their neighbours at this very difficult time. My thanks to everyone who has written.
Today, as many residents have likely read by now, there was a serious incident in Hintonburg involving police. I arrived at the site as the ambulance left and spent about 5 hours at the site speaking with family, residents and witnesses, and some more time this evening at the hospital where one of our residents is in critical condition.
Some details have been released by the Special Investigations Unit that is investigating the incident. You can read its statement here. It says:
Since Kitchissippi saw the City's greatest increase in assessed value in the recent MPAC round, I've been seeking info from staff to get a little more granular data to help me understand on a neighbourhood basis what's going on. In the table below, I don't have the total number of properties, so can't order them that way. But, what's pretty clear is that many of the big jumps are in Hintonburg and Wellington Village, with some other hot spots across the ward including the highest numbers in Westboro.
