Over $120,000 and counting: IBikeIBuy business case at #YOWInsights conference

On Friday May 5, Ottawa Councillor Jeff Leiper and Brandbot Digital Marketing Founder David Hicks will present an IBikeIBuy update to the #YOWInsights Business Summit in Ottawa.

IBikeIBuy.ca is a crowdsourced dataset tracking spending by cyclists when they shop in their community. Packaged as an iOS and Android app and website, the tool has seen over 700 users log over $120,000 in spending at over 500 locations since its launch in 2015.

Mahoney Park (160 Lanark Ave) Notice of Construction Week of May 1, 2017

Please be advised the construction activity will commence at this site either Friday or next week. The playground is being renovated and access may be restricted at times during the work.There will be large construction vehicles and safety fencing present. The work is expected to be complete by the end of June, weather permitting.

Bike lanes on Spencer

I want to thank the many of you who have written to me in the past week-and-a-half about the proposal to put bike lanes on Spencer, replacing the parking. I’ve appreciated the feedback focused on the merits of the proposal. As I noted in my communications, I have been re-considering the proposal to move ahead with this initiative, approaching this with an open mind in the spirit of a re-set in the consultations.

Parking removal and bike lanes on Spencer: open house April 25

Since the spring of 2016, I’ve been consulting and notifying residents through the website and newsletter that I have asked, with staff’s concurrence, to remove parking and paint bike lanes on Spencer from Western to Holland.

Despite some extensive communications, and ongoing correspondence with some affected residents since last June, there are still some residents affected who consider that they’ve been caught off-guard.

Supporting cycling investment in Ontario

For the past several weeks, Councillor Mike Layton (Toronto - Trinity-Spadina) and I have been collaborating to send a letter to Queen's Park asking for a second phase of provincial cycling funding. Today, we were pleased to transmit that letter with 51 signatories from 25 different municipalities. This is a strong demonstration of the cross-provincial support for cycling initiatives.
